der workshop lädt dazu ein zu lieben als politische handlungsform zu verstehen. was heißt lieben für mich selber, für mein sein in welt? wie kann ich lieben wenn ich und andere so umfassend diskriminiert werden, wenn ich und andere so umfassend privilegiert sind? was ist lieben jenseits von familien- und liebesverhältnissen? wie könnte dies gestaltet werden und was bedeutet es für meine politische praxis?

der workshop will raum eröffnen für neue perspektiven zu einem nachdenken über politische handlungsformen und haltungen mir selbst und anderen gegenüber in einer welt, die so durch und durch gewalt-konstituiert ist. was würde es bedeuten zu lieben?

der workshop eröffnet fragen und will einen austausch- und diskussionsraum eröffnen, um miteinander sich konzepten von selbstlieben (gegenüber egoliebe), von lieben als handlung gegenüber liebe als objekt, von lieben als haltung (statt als forderung, erwartung) anzunähern und dies auf die eigene politische praxis zu beziehen. wir lesen texte und machen übungen, wir diskutieren ansätze und spüren nach, was wir uns wünschen.

Doing life! – A live blog with Ngubia Kessé

Sharing stories and experiences – empowering Black and PoC scholars.

Life is not easy – that’s for real. But to us, everyone else might seem to be gliding through life unruffled. From my life’s perspective, it seemed like other (especially white scholars) scholars had/have it all together, and I kept wondering whether it was I that wasn’t getting things right. I felt that my ideas and ways of thinking as a Black scholar were just ‘off’ the mark – maybe they were too simple or not right? At other times it just bothered me that I wanted different things. Sometimes I have feared that my differences in approach would be interpreted as academic unfitness in a white world. We all have our own hidden fear and struggles that we want to mask by overexerting ourselves. Maybe our strategy is hiding, disconnecting and running, complying, and so on… Everyone has their specific struggles and coping stratergy. As a Black woman from a working-class family, I had to learn how to ‘be’ in an academic world dominated by people privileged by whiteness. Part of what has been a really great help in coping and developing my own survival strategies has been mentorship – the opportunity to see other Scholars (BPoC and white) do life. It has for example empowered me to learn that (some) people I greatly admire also face(d) similar struggles and sometimes felt afraid, that they did not always know the solutions to problems… Instead of “writing” a blog I will run a live Blog.

The aim of this live blog will be to empower Black and PoC scholars by sharing the challenges I have lived through as a Black woman in academia and how I have dealt with them. In the second half of our meeting there will be the opportunity for you too to reflect on and share your experiences-stories (if you want to).

No registration is required. Donations are welcome. It is possible to participate in single individual events.

Film: Der Kuaför aus der Keupstraße

Der Film erzählt die Geschichte des Nagelbombenanschlags vor einem türkischen Frisörsalon in der Kölner Keupstraße am 9. Juni 2004. Er konzentriert sich dabei auf die Folgen für die Opfer und ihre Angehörigen, gegen die als Hauptverdächtige jahrelang ermittelt wurde. Der Film rekonstruiert die Ermittlungen der Polizei anhand der Verhörprotokolle und es wird deutlich, dass als Täter für die Polizei vor allem die Opfer in Frage kamen. Ein rassistisches Motiv wurde weitestgehend ausgeblendet. Erst Jahre später wurde der Anschlag dem sogenannten Nationalsozialistischen Untergrund (NSU) zugeordnet.
Auf eindrückliche Weise zeigt DER KUAFÖR AUS DER KEUPSTRASSE wie tiefgreifend der Bombenanschlag, aber auch die Verdächtigungen danach, das Leben im Kölner Stadtteil Mülheim erschüttert haben.
So wie in Köln wurden auch in den anderen Städten, in denen der NSU gemordet hat, zumeist die Angehörigen und ihr Umfeld verdächtigt. Der Film eröffnet die Diskussion über die Frage von strukturellem Rassismus in Deutschland aus der Perspektive der Betroffenen.
Wir zeigen den Film auch anlässlich des vom 17.-21.05. in Köln stattfindenden Tribunals “NSU-Komplex auflösen”. Mehr Infos zum Tribunal: http://nsu-tribunal.de/

*Reclaim the Beats* is a festival with a focus on music genres created by Black, POC and queer people. These genres are House, Techno, Rock & HipHop. Each day will begin with films, workshops/discussions and end with concert performances from fresh modern day artists who are continuing the legacy. The purpose is to empower POC and Queer people and to further educate other participants in a media industry where the cis white male image dominates and controls access within these genres.

The Prince Of Dance Music eLBee BaD speaks on his experiences in the business of music, and the effects of not having white privileges. With several vinyl releases and performances over the last 20 years, this legend shares perspective on the difficult realities of being black in a white dominated business. Some topics will include: DJ Bookings, venue relations, record companies and distribution.
There will also be some short films and excerpts. We will close out with an open stage event for spoken word and HipHop soul from the community.

A critical look at cultural appropriation, commodification, ownership and re-contextualisation in arts and music.
Who and what is affected? Who and what is allowed? How does usage and intent affect how we feel about it? With transnationalism within the arts being promoted from many corners, how do we keep creating with awareness, sensitively and integrity – or this is this an impossible position?
